Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 April 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams that have won individual teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in team and floor competitions, along with the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most recognized American gymnast in the Games. She took home a gold team medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to win back-to-back gold medals at this competition. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and for floor exercise. Raisman also earned silver medals in the individual all around and for floor exercise. She also is the two-time national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) in 2012, and the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five-time medalist at the national championships in the all around (silver in 2016, silver in 2012, 2011 (2012), and in 2012, 2011, and. In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), the former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She is the mother of three siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman, who is Jewish, has stated that she takes a lot pride in the fact that she is able to represent the United States of America but also the Jewish community around the world. Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her early enthusiasm for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she observed on VHS.She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 after having completed her senior year online classes and training for the Olympics.
